Last night, after laboring through a 1,900m workout in the pool, I fell onto my couch, flipped on the tv, and caught the end of 60 Minutes on CBS.
Anderson Cooper was doing an in-depth interview with Michael Phelps. At the moment that I started watching, he was talking about his workouts: 10,000m (6.2 miles; around two and a half hours of swimming) at full speed.
You've got to be kidding me.
Check out the video of him racing Anderson Cooper (without ever coming up for air, or taking a stroke).
So besides a brick on Saturday morning (hour on the bike and a two mile run), my workouts have been fairly swim-heavy recently, which is a very good thing.
I'm still exhausted after only a few laps, and my training partner Danielle is not only out doing me when it comes to endurance, but is also faster than me (once again, she's proven herself as a fantastic motivator).
I think our running coach, Stuart, put it best while watching me at last Tuesday's swim training:
Some people just naturally float, and some people sink ... you sink. :)
